Paramedic, Dr Greg Whitley, has received an award from the Royal College of Paramedics.
Greg is at the forefront of paramedic-led research, working as both a Paramedic Research Fellow at EMAS and an Associate Professor in Paramedic Science at the University of Lincoln.
The ‘Professor Malcolm Woollard Award for Research Excellence’ celebrates innovation, excellence and advocacy in paramedic research, and the translation of evidence into improvements for patients, services and the profession.
Greg is the first paramedic to receive this award, which was presented at the 2026 Royal College of Paramedics Honours and Awards Ceremony on 14 July 2026.
Professor Woollard, the UK’s first paramedic Professor, advanced the integration of research into professional practice and inspired a generation to build the profession’s evidence base.
Over the last 11 years Greg has delivered national clinical trials at EMAS, completed his PhD, and was the first paramedic in the England to secure a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
His most recent research is shaping how ambulance clinicians manage pain for children and young people, testing a children’s distraction kit within a clinical trial.
Greg, who is pictured below with Professor Julia Williams, Head of Research at the College of Paramedics, said: "I’m extremely honoured to have received this award. Of course, this would not have been possible without the support of so many friends and colleagues over the years, particularly my EMAS research colleagues, those at the University of Lincoln, and further afield across the UK and internationally. Most of all, I am grateful to my wife for her enduring support over the years."
