Our Holiday Hero for today is Northamptonshire technician Sarah Showler. Sarah has been with EMAS for 15 years and will be working over Christmas this year so that her colleagues with young children can be together on Christmas Day.

“I usually work over Christmas and have done for many years as I've never really enjoyed Christmas in the past.

“Don't mistake me for a grinch though!

“As with previous years, this year I have shift swapped so some of those who really want a family Christmas can be together with their young children.  This year that means working away at a different station for a couple of days, so I'll be taking my van "Lizzy" and getting some off grid time as a bonus. It will also give me a chance to practice with my late grandfather's harmonica, which I need as I am terrible!!

“I will be celebrating this year, but for me that is Yule on the Solstice which brings longer days, renewal and growth. Also not forgetting a free pass to a New Years Eve event in London with friends where my partner is resident DJ!

“So happy festivities to you all, however you celebrate them.”
