People in the East Midlands will benefit from a £26 million additional investment into East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) between 2026 and 2029, to permanently grow the number of ambulances and crews available to respond to emergency calls.
By 2029, this will mean up to 400 additional patient-facing staff working on around 40 additional ambulances.
Recruiting to our frontline
Recruitment for our future crews is already well underway, with plans to welcome almost 200 additional staff to EMAS by October 2026, and another 200 in 2027.
This week we’ve opened opportunities for qualified technicians and urgent care assistants to join our frontline.
We’re also advertising for qualified mechanics, to maintain our new fleet of ambulances.
Recruitment for qualified paramedics will continue throughout the year, with opportunities advertised on the EMAS website and social media channels.
Improving our service
This investment supports wider plans which will continue improving ambulance response times across the region. EMAS has already made progress here – with continuous improvement to patients classed as category 2 emergencies – including those experiencing symptoms such as chest pain and stroke.
