Gary Price is one of our EMAZING Community First Responders who is out and about helping people in his community this festive period. For Gary, his career and skills align with much of his Community First Responder role which made it an easy transition when he started responding.

Gary, who works as a centre manager at Stoney Cove in Leicester was inspired to become a CFR after teaching Basic Life Support, manual handling and homecare in nursing agencies for 22 years and supporting his parents and other relatives as they grew old. Gary liked the thought of giving back to others and becoming a CFR was the perfect opportunity.

“In my day job I am Centre Manager at Stoney Cove, the UK’s National Diving Centre based in Leicester. In my job, I see our own fair share of rescues and for some reason I feel at home and in my element. I believe in this kind of job, you have a different approach to people and their skills.

“I am very lucky that as part of the job, I have a great team around me. I am lucky enough to work with the Ministry of Defence, Fire service and teach emergency first response instructors. Alongside this I teach those who wish to become diving instructors and I am also a qualified British Sub-Aqua Club instructor. I have been around the water since 1987 and it makes up a big part of my life.

“The CFRs that I work with are great people and the commitment is amazing. I want to thank them all for their time and efforts that they also commit and our trainer, Dom. Alec, my mentor has been a huge support and a great guy to be on shift with and it is really amazing to see the difference we make to people in the community.

“My son is so proud of what I do and he has asked to be trained so we have got him started at the age of 6!”
