Patient Transport Service (PTS)

Apart from providing PTS in North and North East Lincolnshire PCT, from 1 July 2012, EMAS will no longer be providing PTS in other areas. This is because PCTs who commission this service put the work out to tender and EMAS' bids were unsuccessful. The following information reflects the role we used to and will continue to perform up until the 30 June 2012.

.............................................

Every day we provide transport to more than 5,000 patients across the East Midlands who need to attend a hospital or clinic for outpatient appointments or day care sessions.

Patients who travel with us need specialist care but not necessarily the skills of a paramedic or technician and ambulance with blue flashing lights.

Our non-emergency Patient Transport Service (PTS) provides much needed support to patients, and their carers, and is an extremely important part of our activities.

We also make regular journeys to hospitals all over the UK where specialised services are provided to patients - such as the Moorfields Eye Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit and the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, Papworth and Addenbrookes.

Most journeys are arranged in advance by our planning staff who make up journey schedules based on where the patient lives, where they need to go, what time they have to be there and whether they need assistance with a wheelchair or stretcher.  They then have to reverse the process to get the patient back home after treatment.

A typical daily vehicle schedule will cover the transport needs of more than 20 patients.

Help us to help you

Our staff frequently turn up at patients' addresses - only to find they have moved house, been admitted to hospital or have got better!
