Are you right for EMAS?

Driving jobs

If you are thinking about applying for a operational post which will require you to drive either an accident and emergency or non emergency patient transport vehicle then there are a series of regulations (under the Road Traffic Act) that you must meet.

These are:

- You must have at least 2 years driving experience if this applies to

your job role. For a role that involves driving, it is a prerequisite that

you have at least two year’s experience and no more than 3 points

  on your license.

- If you passed your test after 1996, you will need an extra driving

qualification to drive larger vehicles and carry passengers - if you

wish to apply for a job in accident & emergency, you must have at

  least a C1 provisional licence.

- Good eyesight is essential for any roles where driving is

  concerned.

- Medical assessments are carried out for all key clinical roles

Qualifications

The type of qualifications we expect applicants to possess varies according to the role you are applying for. We have standard qualification criteria for most roles within the Trust, and this is included on the relevant job description and person specification attached to our advertisements on NHS Jobs.

For the front line roles within our Accident & Emergency Operations teams and Patient Transport teams the qualification criteria is strictly observed to ensure that each individual has the academic ability to carry out the role they’ve applied for and also the ability to develop in the service in the future.

Additional points

- Your chances of securing an appointment are increased if you can

demonstrate you have any type of work experience (including

volunteering) that displays an aptitude for caring for the public. For

example, St Johns, British Red Cross

- Ensuring you match the person specification requirements for the

role you are applying for will increase the chances of your

  application being shortlisted.
